Komodo National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in East Nusa Tenggara, is home to the unique and rare komodo dragon. The park includes three major islands, Komodo, Rinca and Padar as well as numerous smaller ones and covers an area of about 603 square kilometres. Living in the national park amongst savannas, rain forests, white beaches and clear blue seas are about 2500 komodos. A member of the monitor lizard family, Varanidae, they are the largest living species of lizard measuring about three metres in length and weighing up to 90 kilograms.

Komodo National Park is also home to horses, wild buffalo, deer, wild boar, snakes, monkeys and numerous species of birds.
