Penang is a state in Malaysia that is located by the Strait of Malacca, on the northwestern coat of Peninsular Malaysia. Penang comprises two distinct parts – the main constituent island, known as Penang City or sometimes just as Penang, and a smaller part on the Malay Peninsula, known as Seberang Perai. George Town, located on Penang Island, is the capital of Penang.

With the third highest human development index in all of Malaysia, Penang is a popular tourist destination. It was included in the “10 Islands to Explore Before You Die” list by Yahoo! Travel and also in the “1,000 Places to See Before You Die” book by Patricia Schultz. Many notable people, including Rudyard Kipling and Queen Elizabeth II have visited it as tourists.
