Royale Takitumu is located on Rarotonga, the largest island in the Cook Islands. It is one of the best beachfront hotels here. The hotel is located on the picturesque Titikaveka lagoon.
There are 10 villas on the property and all have been designed in the traditional Polynesian style, with thatched huts. All the villas offer a good view of the turquoise blue ocean but if you want to stay close the beach, go for a Beachfront Villa. The staff at the hotel are cordial and happy to look after the guests.
The hotel is quite secluded. This is actually a welcome change from the hustle bustle of other island destinations like Hawaii. There are 10 villas on the property and all of them are spacious and comfortable. The rooms can be divided into four types – VIP Beachfront Villa, Honeymoon Beachfront Villa, Garden Studio and Lagoon View Villas.
Housekeeping is provided daily except on Sunday. The bathrooms are equipped with showers and there is even a small bath tub. The water is filtered and can be drunk straight out of the tap.
All the rooms are equipped with a small kitchen (to cook food and make coffee), iPod stereo, TV with DVD player, fan and air conditioning. The beds are poster beds and they are very comfortable and nothing to complain about. There is also a sofa set and dining table with chairs in each room.
There is no restaurant in the complex but every villa contains a small kitchen. You can ask the hotel staff to arrange for the ingredients. This set up is common in Polynesian hotels. The advantage is, you can cook your own food and enjoy it on the patio.
There are several cafes and restaurants within walking distance. Many of these restaurants serve authentic Polynesian food. The hotel has made arrangements with many restaurants and cafes in the area. If you speak to Mii, the receptionist, she will call a good restaurant and arrange for someone to pick you up at the hotel gate for free. Later, the restaurant will drop you back to the hotel.
The best attraction at the hotel is the pristine beachfront. You can actually go snorkeling right off the beach. The hotel owns many colorful kayaks if you want to try your hand at that. You don’t have to pay to use the snorkeling equipment. The lagoon contains plenty of fish and corals so this is a wonderful opportunity to go diving. If you feel tired, you go to the beach and laze on one of the many chairs or hammocks. The hammocks are super comfortable, so bring a book along to read on the beach.
Titikaveka beach is considered one of the best beaches on the island and its is especially known for snorkeling. If you want to go swimming, there is a nice pool in the hotel. But most guests give it a miss and opt for the beach.
Royale Takitumu is an authentic, beachfront island destination. If you feel like a bit of sightseeing, there are plenty of places to visit on Rarotonga. The hotel is located on the other side of the island, away from the capital Avarua, so you will have to book a car if you want to go there. Avarua is known for its locally made perfumes and black pearls. Closer to home, there is small settlement close to the hotel. The settlement contains a church made from the coral stone called the Cook Islands Christian Church where you can visit as well.
